Things To Do, My Tennessee Week

If you thought Cheekwood, with its marriage of breathtaking gardens and outstanding art, was vibrant, just wait until you experience Chihuly At Cheekwood. This latest exhibit at one of Nashville’s premiere museums features stunning hand-blown glass sculptures by world-renowned glass sculptor Dale Chihuly. The spectacular works of art are on display throughout the botanical garden and inside the museum. The Saffron Tower, a 30-foot, yellow neon sculpture, the sun, a 15-foot radiant yellow orb and chandeliers can be found among others dotting the grounds. Talk about a new twist to one of Nashville’s favorite attractions! The display has been so popular, Cheekwood announced it will add an additional Wednesday evening for visitors starting July 21 for its nighttime “Chihuly Nights.” Cheekwood will remain open until 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings through October 29, offering guests a unique nighttime art experience.

Also going on this week, Carnton Plantation in Franklin will host an intimate book signing of J. Roderick Heller’s latest work, “Democracy’s Lawyer: Felix Grundy of the Old Southwest” from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. July 21.

The 22nd Annual WEVL FM 89.9 Blues on the Bluff Concert kicks off July 24 with a spectacular live blues music festival with views of the Mississippi River. Head out to the event to experience great music and barbecue on the grounds of the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis.

Get a head start on your holiday shopping list while enjoying holiday music at the Second Annual Christmas in July in historic downtown Clinton on July 24. Antique and specialty shops will offer special sales on regular and holiday items during the event. Food vendors in the park will provide lunch options in addition to Clinton’s latest lunch spots, Sweet Café and Market Street Café. Guests at the event will also get a chance to meet Santa Claus.
