The Show Goes On in Tennessee. The state tourism industry is back in business from recent record-breaking rains and flooding. Volunteer efforts are in full swing as Tennessee citizens show the world what being part of the “Volunteer State” is all about!
Be sure to tune in May 16 for the “Music City Keep on Playin’- A Benefit for Flood Relief” national telethon and concert event and phone lines will remain open for donations. All money raised will go to those in need in Middle Tennessee. Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee will be the organization processing and distributing donations. The telethon and concert will air on Great American Country Television from 8 p.m.-10 p.m. EST. The special will re-air 10 p.m., midnight and 2 a.m. and phone lines will remain open for donations.
In other news, the Middle Tennessee Strawberry Festival, which begins today, is Portland’s most anticipated annual event. The week of Strawberry Festival is marked by many activities, capped off with the big festival day on Saturday, May 15. This festival has been celebrated for more than 60 years and draws thousands of visitors from neighboring counties and states.
Memphis in May International Festival is still in full swing, drawing crowds by the thousands to participate in wholesome family fun in the form of musical entertainment, food, music and more. Beginning this Thursday, the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest kicks off at Tom Lee Park. Who will win the championship and earn bragging rights? You’ll definitely want to attend this event to find out for yourself.
Enjoy a free, family-friendly evening of musical entertainment at the “Evening Shade” concert at Johnston Park in Cleveland this Friday. Bring a blanket and pack a picnic dinner while jamming to the melodies of Jay & The Techniques, a rhythm and blues/soul group.
