Summer Adventures Found Here!
Things To Do, My Tennessee Weekend
It’s time to take summer by the hand and go on your greatest adventure yet in the state of Tennessee. What’ll it be? Perhaps these events will strike your fancy:
Come celebrate the birthday of 19th century hero Davy Crockett on what would be his 224th birthday come Aug. 14. The city of Morristown will host the birthday bash, providing free refreshments, children’s activities, homemade ice cream (yum!), music, wagon rides and tours of the Crockett Tavern Museum. The event will be held at the museum from 3 p.m.-5 p.m.
What does summer smell like? It’s a mixture of sweet cotton candy, salty hotdogs and deep-fried funnel cakes. You can find all of these and more at the Wilson County Fair. From Aug. 13-21, the nine-day event will feature everything from cook-offs and contests to music, a petting zoo and racing pigs. Grab your family, grab your friends and head over to Lebanon for summer fun like no other. Swing by the Williamson County Fair in Franklin from now through Aug. 14 to continue in the fun for all.
If you haven’t gotten your fill of the King of Rock ‘N Roll’s legacy yet, there’s still time to participate in Elvis Week 2010 in Memphis. Thousands flock to the mecca of all things Elvis, Graceland, and there’s still lots to do before the week ends Aug. 16. Be sure to stay for the annual candlelight vigil on Aug. 15.
P.S. Do you love Great Smoky Mountains National Park as much as we do? There’s a contest to vote for America’s favorite park that runs through Aug. 31. The Smokies need your vote! Up for grabs is a $100,000 grant from the Coca-Cola Company. To vote, visit http://www.livepositively.com/#/americasparks/vote.
